My dad worked for Sears for 42 years. Sears owned Allstate at that time. I was working for a used car dealer after college making $50 a week and I’m sure my dad thought it was going to take me forever to find a “real” job. He was speaking with our neighbor who was the first Allstate agent in Florida. Our neighbor got me an interview at Allstate. I got the job as an underwriter. I worked there 2 years, until starting East Coast Insurors in 1975.
I worked in advertising for Realtors, builders and developers for 10 years. While at the Daytona Beach News-Journal, I reconnected with a friend, Glenna Hicks, who is a commercial agent for East Coast Insurors. Glenna suggested I talk with the agency owner about advertising. I handled their advertising for 4 years, until the agency owner hired me to handle their marketing activities. Two years later I became an agent.
I’m a Tar Heel Girl who transplanted herself in St Augustine in 1984 to work at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind. After 10 years of working with deaf students, followed by 6 years as a professional Mom, I decided it was time for a career change. I became a Long Term Care Insurance Specialist obtaining my Life & Health license in 2000, shortly followed by a Property & Casualty license, ending up at ECI in 2005 in the Commercial Lines Department.
I was introduced to the insurance world by a mutual friend of an insurance agency principal. The agency was looking for a part-time person in their accounting department and I fit the bill as I was only working while my children were in school. In 2008, I found East Coast Insurors through my husband who had been East Coast Insurors’ banker.
My first job in insurance began in 1986 as the Administrative Assistant to the President of a large multi-state agency. I became the marketing director; obtained my Life and Property & Casualty licenses and then developed the Garage & Dealers Department for the agency. I arrived at East Coast Insurors in 1995 when one of their associates I had worked with told me what a great place to work it was. She was right, and I am blessed every day to be working here.
Paula began with ECI in the Fall 2015 in the Garage & Dealers Department as a licensed customer service representative. She loves the beach, swimming and singing karaoke. She sometimes provides in-home care for elderly patients in the East Volusia County area. One of her favorite ways to relax is fishing with her fiancé and her children.
Luchia is a native of Miami who decided to move to Daytona in 2012. She has two sons, 10 and 11, who keep her very busy. She has a third child which she refers to as her “Fur Baby,” an 8 pound MinPin who thinks he is a Greyhound! Luchia has been married for 6 years and she enjoys eating lunch alone - it’s her only quiet time. She enjoys cooking and her family enjoys the fact that she does!
Taylor began at ECI in January 2016 working part-time. She loves it so much, she is now working with us full-time. You may recognize her from her other life as a server and cashier at Tia Cori’s Tacos on Beach Street in Daytona.
In 2004, I was a client of East Coast Insurors. I was new in town and was looking for a career. Although I had a medical background, I liked what I saw and asked for a starting position. Our owner saw that I had a medical background and asked his dentist if he could use someone like me. The dentist said yes, but I said no, I want to be with East Coast Insurors. Years later, it is still the right decision.
I got my start in the field 30 years ago as a rater for an insurance company in my hometown of Lombard, Illinois. I returned to insurance after being a stay-at-home mom for 20 years. I found East Coast Insurors through a temp agency in 2013 and decided to stay.
I was looking for work to keep me busy. In 2013, I connected with a temp agency and got an interview with East Coast Insurors. I was hired as a temp and was offered a permanent position.
